Very much so… I used to think I was being a good friend by tracking down hard to find decorator pieces for friends, or giving art works that I had spent many hours on as gifts….. but I may as well just sell my stuff to strangers, and use the cash buy westfield gift vouchers for my friends…

well said.. Ive done the same too many times, and even though i say i won’t anymore, I probably still will. family are the worst when it comes to wanting to pay you anything. your work is amazingly beautiful. and so are you. xx

Hi Kay, thanks for your comment.
I agree, that IS just utterly sad.
Saying that, I use Ps too. Of course I do. It’s what the client wants.
And if I don’t do it, will people look at my work and say it’s not good because I don’t Ps?
We’re in a weird place in this society where everything is judged on appearance. How do we judge things that aren’t real, even beauty?

Very good insight so early in your career. I am just as guilty of “photoshopping” the pores away. Where does this madness end?

I’ve worked in the industry for decades and one of the most vivid memories I have is of the young airbrush retoucher at a major retail establishment long ago. As she sat next to me airbrushing a picture of the models flesh that was pinching ever so slightly from the underwear’s elastic band she said, “This is what my waistline looks like and I need to loose another 5 pounds to look like this” referring to her own airbrushed creation. I told her that no one looks like that and this picture is only pretend, made up by her. She said she still needed to look like that and for the rest of the year I watched her as she dieted in vain. She was so enmeshed in the dream of advertising that reality ceased to exist for her own body image, though she was quite striking and thin.

Sad.

Hi Saveetha. Editing sky? Not so much. I may touch a little more clarity but that’s all.

Skin is a different thing. I may remove a blemish but that’s about it. If you can tell me which shot you’re talking about, then I can talk you right through what I did.

Hey Daniel. I play with the aperture and focus to change the effect of each shot. Really close, with a tiny big depth of field gives those soft romantic shots.
